SAGAN-VIENNA : A new concept for handbags

Show me the handbag you carry and I’ll tell you who you are…

The fashionable woman of today is a mixture of several cultures, situations, and styles.

This is why choosing only one style is not trendy anymore. Handbags mean a lot to women–mothers, workers, women who paint or who teach, women who make decisions or serve food in a restaurant, women who shop or who sell, women who travel or the ones who lead.

We are nothing without a handbag. It is our little Pandora’s box, full of everything necessary to survive in a world where we need to be active and awake all the time.

I’ve seen a lot of models of handbags, so many materials and designs for different seasons of the year. Some make you feel comfortable; others, distinguished. Some are very classic and others are cool and funny. One handbag for each day of the week or a variety for different moods. Why not if you can afford it?

Today we bring you SAGAN Vienna. The name may seem a little long for a handbag firm, and make you think of something related to Austria instead of handbags. However, the founders have an explanation behind this that we’ll share in a bit.

We couldn’t resist writing about this young brand and sharing it with women looking for something exclusive to wear, whatever the occasion. SAGAN Vienna is the ideal balance between the sophisticated and the practical. It is pure simplicity and perfection. We fell in love with it, and the new collection is a must this season!

SAGAN Vienna is a luxury brand offering handbags, small leather goods, and home accessories launched in Vienna, Austria in 2012 by Tanja Bradaric and Taro Ohmae. Devoted to expert craftsmanship and exquisite design, the philosophy of SAGAN Vienna is to create functional, quality pieces with a strong aesthetic character, a sense of uniqueness and relaxed elegance.

In their designs, Tanja Bradaric and Taro Ohmae combine familiar yet exceptional materials such as for example Viennese netting, Austrian loden cloth, vintage Transylvanian linen, for bags specially crafted horn details… in order to realize their creative vision. It is an encounter with familiar, charged with history, the well known that spurs new ideas. SAGAN Vienna is familiar done differently.

Tanja Bradaric and Taro Ohmae of SAGAN Vienna are both graduates of the University of Applied Arts Vienna and upon graduation they both worked for Parisian fashion houses Chloé and Balenciaga before founding their own label.

Inspiration from different cultural contexts and traditional artistry is at the heart of SAGAN Vienna’s approach to design. This awareness is perfectly symbolized by the brand’s signature use of the “Wiener Geflecht” (Viennese netting), a cane webbing used for the seats of the Thonet chair number 14, a Viennese design classic that is still part of the city’s famous coffee house culture. By incorporating the “Wiener Geflecht” into handbags made from exquisite Italian leather, SAGAN Vienna has created an iconic and unique product.

All SAGAN Vienna goods are created with the finest materials and manufactured by skilled artisans in Vienna and Europe.
In Japanese, the word “sagan” means “the left bank” or “the left side of a river” and the expression implies an awareness for idiosyncrasy and inventive non-conformity that strongly resonates with the design principles of the brand.

SAGAN Vienna has received critical acclaim from international press and media and was featured among others, in Vogue UK, Vogue Italy, Vogue Japan, Monocle, I-D Germany, Purple Fashion Magazine, Nylon Japan, L´officiel and the New York Times.

Their collections are sold in selected stores across Europe, Asia, North America, and Australia.
