Cubero Quesada- talent from Valencia

The Pink Post-it: How did everything start? When did you decide to launch yourself into the arena of fashion?

Ever since I was a child, I’ve loved the fairs and carnivals in my town. I would touch the clothes and remember their shape so I could make similar dresses. I think that’s what gave me a push and motivation to take an interest in this field. And thanks to my aunt and a tailor in town, I learned to sew before I began my studies in fashion design.

The Pink Post-it.: Do you design clothes for women or men?

I have always designed collections for women. However, I’ve decided to make this latest collection for men. Actually, this was much harder to do. A wider variety of clothes exists for women when it comes to creating a collection because some men cannot wear certain pieces of clothing as they don’t feel comfortable with the style or because they might feel embarrassed by others around them.

The Pink Post-it: What kind of fabric do you use in the majority of your collections?

I like using flexible and stretchy fabrics a lot because they allow me to make garments that are easily fitted or adapted to the body and transmit greater comfort to the client. I also like more rigid materials that help me to create volume in some pieces, although I try to create my own textiles either through printing or simply making unique textures.

The Pink Post-it: What colors have you selected for your new Spring-Fall 2020 collection?

This collection is timeless due to the colors, very spring-like. But you can also find winter elements, like feathers, in some pieces. The idea was to transmit the sensation of indifference, as at the beginning it flourishes until the place where the heart becomes frozen due to rejection and this love not being reciprocated. There are pink and fuchsia, and they become muted and convert to white, after having gone through a very light pink.

The Pink Post-it: What colors will be worn this fall-winter season?

As I’ve mentioned, I like to base the colors on the story I want to tell, while always being informed by the season’s tendencies. Perhaps for this next season, there’ll be a color palette based on a wide range of colors, as well as different prints.

The Pink Post-it: What is your favorite piece of clothing? Your favorite color?

Personally, the garment that will always be fundamental to my closet are some good skinny trousers in dark shades, since black sums up half my wardrobe. Generally, I’m a very simple person when it comes to getting dressed, although my collections are more daring.

The Pint Post-it: How would you define an elegant woman? Does she need to wear Chanel?

Elegance is not in the clothes you wear, it’s in the person you are. I believe that a person who is comfortable with the outfit they’re wearing shows much more elegance than others who act differently. The majority of the cardigans and jackets I wear belonged to my father or grandfather, they have a lot of sentimental value.

The Pink Post-it: Where would you like to present your show, outside of Spain?

If I could show one of my collections outside Spain someday, I’d love to do it in Paris. I love their fashion week and, to me, it’s one of the best catwalks that exist today. Furthermore, the style I usually create in my collections could fit in perfectly with others presented there.

The Pink Post-it: A city for spending your vacation?

I love Spain, and nature in particular. I think when it comes to choosing a good vacation site, it will most likely be a quiet place so I can disconnect completely. I’m used to the tranquility in my town and that’s why I’d try to find something similar for a vacation. I’d also take trips outside Spain to get to know other cultures because you never know where inspiration will strike.

The Pink-post-it: Who is your favorite designer? Why?

From Spain, I really like the style of Juan Vidal, María Escoté, and Leandro Cano. From abroad, I’ve always been fascinated by the collections of Alexander McQueen, as he always created an esthetic and atmosphere that really fit his style—a dark essence that characterizes the brand. I love it.

The Pink post-it: An essential or indispensable accessory?

I never leave home without my belt pouch so I can have my pockets free; or a belt, even though it may not be functional. I always feel safer wearing one. These are probably the only accessories I wear since I don’t use necklaces, bracelets, watches, etc. Well, the truth is I can’t leave out a pair of good shoes because I wear them more than sneakers.

The Pink Post-it: Which Spanish model would you like to have to wear something from your collection? Which international model?

I really like peculiarities in people, perhaps that’s why I’d like to dress national models Africa Peñalver, Blanca Padilla, and we can’t forget Nieves Álvarez, as she’s one of most stylish women in the country. For international models, I’d pick Cara Delevingne or Molly Bair—I’m crazy about the strangeness of this latter girl.  She’s unique; a very unconventional model.

The Pink Post-it: What would you say to young people who’d like to become fashion designers?

The advice that I always give is: do not stop dreaming. It’s a complicated world, but don’t let anyone hold you back. Also, don’t let anyone tell you what you can or cannot design, regardless of how crazy the idea seems. If it occurred to you, it’s possible to create it even though it might be tricky to execute. This has happened to me as well regarding the volume of certain items in my collection, but with effort and dedication, everything is possible.
